Keeping Bees on Private Land
an article by Colin Goodwin 2016
Would you like to host some hives on your land?
A number of people have expressed interest in utilizing their land for hosting bee-hives. These offers are very generous and taken seriously by the club but we cannot get around to assessing all of the properties on offer to us and this has created a slight problem.
Hopefully all of your questions are answered in this article but if you have any further  queries please direct them to the club via the contact form on the last page of this website.
The article is available for you to read or download

BeeAware is a hub of information for beekeepers and growers about honey bee biosecurity and pollination of agricultural and horticultural crops.
The site contains an extensive range of info about exotic and established pests and diseases of honey bees, and helps beekeepers to identify and respond to these pest threats.
Plant Health Australia is the national coordinator of the government-industry partnership for plant biosecurity in Australia.
The purpose of PHA is for government and industry to have a strong biosecurity partnership that minimises pest impacts on Australia, enhances market access and contributes to industry and community sustainability.

This article/link was sent to me  from Alyssa  via an email from her mum Brooke.    An excerpt from the email is below:

Alyssa has been learning about honeybees in class and last week she had the opportunity to go to a local honeybee farm on a class trip. She had a blast and absolutely loved it - I think I may even have a future beekeeper on my hands.:) She has a reflection paper due on Friday about the trip and what she's learned about honeybees. We started researching and found your page (about Pests & Diseases). It's been such a wonderful resource to her ...
When I told Alyssa I was going to email you to say thank you, she suggested I tell you about another article she found, "A Guide to Beekeeping"    She thought it could be a good addition to the other beekeeping resources on your page.  Hopefully you find it as useful as Alyssa has!

Thanks so much Alyssa & Brooke. I am more than happy to include your excellent suggestion on our website. It made me look for some  ancient evidence of beekeeping which is how I found the picture of the coin above.

We wish you the very best and know that the more you learn  about bees the more you will love them.
Best of luck from the South Gippsland Beekeepers.
